Most people experiencing depression describe several core elements of the condition, including lack of motivation, low energy, sleep problems, sadness, and irritability. Other more serious symptoms may be preoccupation with guilt, inability to feel hopeful or happy, and thoughts of ending one’s life. Despite efforts to “think positively” or find a way out, re-engaging with life the way you once did may seem impossible.
In truth, there are as many shades of depression as people who struggle with the condition, and the road to recovery differs for everyone. Generally, I first help clients clarify the underlying causes of their suffering, which may range from the stuffing of ones own feelings to grief to residue of painful experiences long past. Once brought to light, I strive to empower my clients with the courage to face painful feelings and challenges they fear in order to live more authentically and achieve wellbeing.
