Psychotherapy for Adults
Integrating the spiritual into traditional talk therapy.
Shannon Constable, MA
My Approach
My approach to therapy is grounded in creating a warm, safe, and collaborative space where you feel truly seen, understood, and valued. I integrate humanistic, client-centered, and relational psychodynamic principles, which means I focus not only on your current challenges but also on how your past experiences and relationships have shaped your sense of self and the patterns that influence your life today. Together, we’ll explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion, helping you gain deeper insights into your emotions, behaviors, and relationships. By working through these dynamics in the therapeutic relationship, we can open the door to healing and meaningful growth.
I also draw on positive psychology to help you identify and build on your strengths, resilience, and values. Therapy with me is about more than addressing difficulties—it’s about fostering self-awareness, connection, and empowerment. I’ll work with you to create a sense of balance, meaning, and fulfillment in your life, while also providing a supportive environment to process pain and discover new ways of relating to yourself and others. Whether you’re seeking to work through challenges, improve relationships, or deepen your understanding of yourself, I’m here to walk alongside you on your journey toward greater well-being and wholeness.
Qualifications & Training
Education & Training
I graduated with an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University, where I developed a strong foundation in evidence-based therapeutic practices and a deep understanding of human behavior. My studies included a diverse range of courses designed to prepare me for work in clinical settings, such as physiological psychology, which enhanced my knowledge of the connection between brain function and behavior, and group psychotherapy, where I learned to facilitate and support the dynamics of group healing and interpersonal growth. Additionally, my coursework in positive psychology equipped me with tools to help clients build resilience, cultivate strengths, and focus on achieving a fulfilling and meaningful life. This well-rounded education provided both theoretical knowledge and practical application, allowing me to approach therapy from a holistic and client-centered perspective.
Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology, a program that integrates rigorous academic training with a focus on cultural and spiritual dimensions of mental health. My research and clinical interests center on the intersection of spiritual health and positive psychology, exploring how these areas can contribute to overall well-being and resilience. As part of my doctoral training, I have completed notable coursework such as psychodynamic interventions, which has deepened my understanding of unconscious processes, relational patterns, and their impact on emotional well-being.
My studies in human sexuality have also equipped me with the tools to approach sensitive topics with openness, respect, and a holistic understanding of identity and relationships. Additionally, the clinical integration of spirituality and psychology has provided me with the framework to thoughtfully incorporate clients’ spiritual and existential concerns into therapy, meeting them where they are and respecting their unique beliefs and values. This blend of academic, clinical, and research experiences enables me to provide comprehensive, empathetic care tailored to the needs of each unique client.
Specialty Areas of Practice
Anxiety
Anxiety is a natural part of being human—an evolutionary tool designed to keep us safe by alerting us to potential danger. It’s what helped our ancestors survive by sharpening their focus and preparing their bodies to respond to threats. However, in today’s world, where threats are often more psychological than physical, anxiety can become overwhelming and disruptive. When it starts interfering with daily life, relationships, or your ability to feel at ease, it may be time to seek support. Therapy provides a safe space to understand your anxiety, uncover its triggers, and develop tools to manage it effectively. Together, we can work toward helping you reclaim balance and live a life that feels calmer and more in control.
Spirituality & Mental Health
I am deeply passionate about integrating spirituality and mental health in therapy, recognizing how spiritual beliefs, practices, and values can influence a person’s emotional well-being and relational patterns. From a relational psychodynamic perspective, I explore how clients’ spiritual experiences and relationships—whether with faith traditions, a higher power, or a sense of the sacred—intersect with their sense of self and connections to others. Spirituality often provides a profound source of meaning, purpose, and resilience, and I aim to create a space where clients feel safe to explore these dimensions alongside their mental health concerns. Together, we can uncover how spiritual or existential questions are woven into their emotional lives and relationships, fostering deeper self-awareness and greater harmony between the spiritual and psychological.
Perinatal Psychotherapy
Many pregnant people feel anxious or low during pregnancy. The heartbreak of pregnancy loss or infertility can be crippling. Traumatic birth experiences can leave you shaken. It can be overwhelming and difficult to adjust to the changes and challenges of parenthood. Do you worry about how these shifts might affect your relationships, or feel unsure about balancing your needs with those of your growing family? Perinatal psychotherapy provides support for navigating the emotional and psychological challenges of this transformative time. Whether you’re facing mood or anxiety concerns, struggling with past trauma, or simply seeking guidance to adjust to the demands of parenting, therapy offers a compassionate space to explore your feelings, find healing, and build resilience.
